My discovery of Coloured Pencil drawing began in 2017. I was fortunate to find a group of Coloured Pencil artists who met weekly under the guidance of a tutor. For six months or so, I learned the basics of Coloured Pencil drawing which gave me a valuable foundation to build on, before our tutor left for the South Island.

My enjoyment of this medium grew, and with the encouragement and critiques of the group, along with watching Coloured Pencil artist videos, so did my skill. I retired in 2021, giving me time to draw almost everyday.

So how did I enter into the lane of drawing pet portraits?

I drew a friends’ much-loved dog 2 years ago, framed it and gave it for a birthday gift. The delight it brought her was a joy to see, and was like a ‘light bulb’ moment for me!

This was the start of my ‘pet portrait’ journey, not only doing what I love to do, but bringing pleasure to those I draw for.
